Who is Oppenheimer & Co.?

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. is a New York-based investment bank, broker-dealer and wealth management firm. It provides wealth management and brokerage for individuals and families, and investment banking, capital markets, equity and fixed income research, and institutional sales and trading for corporate and institutional clients.

The firm traces its history to 1881, when William Fahnestock formed the investment bank Fahnestock & Co. at Two Wall Street. The Oppenheimer & Co. name dates from 1950, when a broker-dealer partnership serving large institutional clients was formed and named after Max E. Oppenheimer. In 2003 the Fahnestock and Oppenheimer brokerage businesses were brought together under the Oppenheimer & Co. name, and in 2008 the firm added the US capital markets business of CIBC World Markets.

Headquartered in Lower Manhattan, Oppenheimer has branch offices across the United States and international offices in London, Geneva, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv and Hong Kong.
