Who is Robotti & Co.?

Robotti & Co. LLC was the name of a New York City broker-dealer founded by Bob Robotti in 1983. The firm was started to bring thoughtful investment ideas to like-minded value managers, and it built long relationships with value-oriented investors who shared its approach.

Its business combined research, trade execution and media content for investors. Rather than following quarterly estimates or short-term catalysts, its research took a long-term view, concentrating on a company's normalized earnings power and on ideas that were out of favor, misunderstood or simply neglected by the conventional sell-side. The firm stated that it valued a lasting relationship with a client over any single transaction, and its trading desk handled order execution for those clients.

The firm operated from offices on Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Over its history the broker-dealer also used the names Robotti & Eng and Robotti & Company, Incorporated.
