A FIGI is checked first: its structure and check digit. Any other identifier works too: choose its type, or switch to automatic detection. Each result shows the FIGI, the composite FIGI and the share class FIGI, with the name, ticker, exchange code, market sector and security type.

How to use the figi lookup

  1. 1

    Paste a FIGI

Twelve characters, for example BBG000B9XRY4, or choose another type to map an ISIN, CUSIP, SEDOL or ticker.

  2. 2

    Look it up

The check digit is verified first, then the instrument is found.

  3. 3

    Copy the level you need

Venue FIGI, composite FIGI or share class FIGI, each with a copy button.

What the results show

Name and ticker
The instrument name and its ticker on that venue.
Exchange
The exchange code of the venue. For GCC and other markets with a reference page, it links to the venue's Market Identifier Code (MIC).
Sector and type
The market sector (Equity, Corp, Govt, Index and so on) and the type of instrument, such as Common Stock.
FIGI
The identifier of the instrument on that one venue.
Composite FIGI
Groups the venue listings of the instrument within one country.
Share class FIGI
Groups the instrument across countries.

FIGI, composite FIGI and share class FIGI

  • A FIGI (Financial Instrument Global Identifier) is an open standard of the Object Management Group. It has 12 characters, a code is never reused, and the identifiers are in the public domain.
  • The FIGI identifies the instrument on one trading venue, for example a share on one exchange.
  • The composite FIGI groups the venue FIGIs of the same instrument within one country.
  • The share class FIGI groups the instrument across countries.
  • One ISIN therefore maps to many FIGIs: the lookup lists them all, one row per venue.

The ZagTrader platform looks up new instruments and adds them for you

ZagTrader keeps a single instrument master for every market you trade. Records are matched on standard identifiers, so the same security is recognised whether your team searches by ISIN, SEDOL, CUSIP, FIGI or the local exchange code.

Switch on automatic lookup, and when anyone searches for an instrument the platform does not yet hold, it looks it up by its identifier and adds it to the right market, ready to use. Operators can request a specific instrument by identifier from the instrument screen.

Frequently asked questions

What is a FIGI?

A 12-character open identifier for financial instruments, published as a standard by the Object Management Group. Unlike an ISIN, it identifies an instrument down to the trading venue.

How do I convert an ISIN to a FIGI?

Choose ISIN in the type list, or Detect automatically, paste the ISIN and choose Look up. Every FIGI found for it is listed with its ticker and exchange code.

How is the FIGI check digit calculated?

Letters count as 10 to 35 and digits as themselves. Every second value is doubled and the digits of all values are added. The check digit is the amount needed to reach the next multiple of 10.

Why does my ISIN return no FIGI?

Not every instrument is covered, in particular unlisted shares and some bonds, funds and new issues.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up. The number of lookups per minute is limited so the tool stays fast for everyone; if you go over, the page asks you to wait a minute.

What happens to what I type?

Our code does not store your query. Like any website, our hosting provider keeps standard request logs for a short time. The lookup sends only what you type and the filters you set, through our server, to a security reference service. Answers are kept for a day, with nothing that links them to you, so the same lookup is quick the next time anyone asks.

Results come from a security reference service at the time of the lookup and are not checked by ZagTrader. FIGI identifiers are in the public domain. Check important data against the issuer or your data provider before you rely on it. CUSIP is a registered trademark of the American Bankers Association; ZagTrader is not affiliated with it.
